A Survey On Undergraduates' Career Planning

Career planning is to combine self-development with organization-development, to analyze the self, organization (occupation) and social factors which are related, to decide the strategic planning and plan implematation by the organization or by self. Undergraduates' career planning is the key point to improve the quality of the life and to solve the problem of difficulties in employment of them. Questionnaire of undergraduates' career planning was used to investigate 800 graduates of different departments in unversity. The results showed that:(1) There were significant gender differences in undergraduates' career planning. Male is better than female on occupation, social and general cognition factors.(2) General differences were showed on grade between one and three, four; grade between two and three, four. Besides,there were significant differences on self, occupation, plan implementation and behavior fators.(3) There were significant differences in subject. Students of science were better than those of art on the cognition of career and plan implematation. However, students of art were bettter on cognition of society, strategic planning and general cognition compaired with those of science. (4) Whether the graduates were from city or village, no significant differences were found in their native place.(5) There were significant differences between class-managers and non-class-managers. Furthermore,class-managers were better than non-class-managers in those factors: self, career and general behavior.(6) There were no significant differences in becoming a menmber of an association or not.(7) There were significant differences in father's occupation in those factors: self, strategic planning, plan implementation and general emotion.(8) There were significant differences in father's occupation, which gennerally appears between different culture level. Besides, there were significant differences in occupation, strategic planning, plan implementation, general cognition and behavior.(9)No significant differences were showed between those having paid working experience and those not. Howerver, those having paid working experience appears having high scores whether in whole or in different factors.Furthermore, we collected following information from the interview:(1) It is the major choosing and the sense of the study planning that directly lead to positive condition of the future position choosing. If they can plan and adjust earlier, they can control.(2) The usage of associations, which were important to some students in career planning, needs furtherly improved.(3) Majority of parents are unfamiliar with career planning, and their consciousness of that is faint.(4) Recently, the key of teaching for undergraduates is to wake the consciousness and the awareness of planning. And the professional guidance for them is not enough now.(5) The department of career guidance of the universities cannot keep their work quality for their lack of professional teaching group.(6) The poor communication, which is among school, family and the relative department, still exists. This is not benefit for effectively and smoothly planning. Point to the problems showed in the investigation and the interview, we provide some suggestions as following:(1)For persons: wake up yourself, learn to study actively, keep contact with relative department, adjust your plan early;(2)For school: consummate the institution, fulfill guiding services, strengthen professional training, provide reliable information;(3)For family: provide further understanding, encourage and surport in all-around way, frequently communicate and share, study actively;(4)For society: change the concept and the attiude, strengthen the construction of the system, provide more positions, publish information immediately.
