Self-consciousness is people's understanding to himself and also that of the relations between himself and others or himself and the society. It includes self-observation,self-monitoring,self-evaluation, self-experience, self-educations, self-control and other aspects. Self-consciousness regulates people's psychological activities and behaviors.Self-consciousness originated from infancy and will tend to mature during people's adolescence. It plays an important role in the psychological activities of the individual. If it is affected by internal or external negative factors in the course of the development and result in children's self-consciousness developing along unhealthy tendencies or lagging behind in the level of development, then the children's behavior, learning and social capacity will be badly influenced, which will also lead to all kinds of emotional or behavioral problems.The purpose of this thesis was to explore the effect of Go teaching to the development of the children's self-consciousness through studying the changes which happen in children's self- consciousness after their learning to play go. In this thesis, I took the students in the third grade of No.2 Primary School on Nei Jiang Road of Yangpu district of Shanghai as testees and the test of Go teaching lasted one academic year. Among them, 64 students are in the experimental group and 65 in the control group. During the investigation, I used the Piers-Harris's Children's Self-awareness scale as measuring tools to study the testees and all data collected by SPSS13.0 software system for scientific statistical analysis, the results showed that:1, The children's self-awareness has been increased after receiving Go teaching. Particularly, to children of low self-awareness, Go teaching has more obvious effects. 2, Go Teaching influences the children in 6 aspects to different extent, such as children's behavior, intelligence, and school performance, etc.. Among them, the impact to intelligence and school performance, teamwork and anxiety dimensions are most significant, but in the rest three aspects, there was no significant change appears.3,Through observing and comparing the self-consciousness distribution of the boys and girls in two groups before and after experiment, I found the results exist the difference arising out of sex. After one-year Go teaching, the difference based on sex tended to be wider. This tendency is relevant to the difference of the boys'and girls'psychological characteristics and that of the different results of the Go teaching, in particular the latter contributed much more to this difference than the former.According to the results of this study, my conclusion is that: After learning to play Go, children's self-consciousness will change, that is to say, Go teaching can increase or decrease children's self-consciousness.
