The Self-taught Examination system was set up during the national educational reform in 1980s,and since then it has become an important part of our higher education. At the same time The Self-taught Examination as a education system played a role in the rural areas of this broad room because of the advantages for examples, its open and flexible,the small of contradictions between working and learning,low-cost etc. The development of The Rural Self-taught Examination was considered of the needs of real rural areas and farmers to cultivate retainable,useful,practical,applicable talent for the rural regions′economic construction and social development. Some useful attempts were done by parts of the provinces and the cities in the 1980s about The Rural Self-Taught Examination development and a lot of valuable experience and lessons were made. A pilot area of Rural Self-taught Examination was first established in Jiangsu Province in 1999. A bold reform was done about the existing model of The Rural Self-taught Examination and positive results were achieved. The Rural Self-taught Examination depth and development were effectively promoted.The road ahead is still long and we need to continue the pursuit and exploration. The development of The Rural Self-taught Examination is not a bumpy road, and many new situations and problems are confronted on the road ahead. So we educators need to further study and explore,constantly sum up experience and pioneer and promote The Rural Self-taught Examination to a new level.The author mainly adopts the approach of conventional documentation and supplements it with practical illustration to combine the theory and practice closely together.In this study 20 years′development of the Rural Self-taught Examination is looked as object of study. We mainly use the documentation and describe the past 20 years China′s development of the Rural Self-taught Examination of the historical background and the cause; comb the development of the Rural Self-taught Examination process; sum up four stages of development: spontaneous stage, research and pilot phase, the promotion and consolidation phase and deepening stage; describe the present situation of large-scale acceleration and formalization of Rural Self-taught Examination; analysis the qualitative change of the development of the Rural Self-taught Examination from the policy and system,major settings and social assistance three dimensions and prospect the development of China′s Rural Self-taught Examination for the future. On the one hand, scientific basis are provided for the decision-making of self-taught examination agency to reduce the subjectivity and blindness. On the other hand, the valuable theoretical and practical reference guides are provided for the self-taught examination to promote the healthy development.
