Strategies Of Cultural Barriers In Interpreting Press Conference In The Perspective Of Interpretation Theory

This thesis aims at analyzing the cultural barriers in interpreting CPPCC and NPC press conference and putting forward coping strategies by means of application of the interpretive theory mainly featured by the principle of "faithfulness". It is the interpreters of the CPPCC and NPC press conference who are first exposed to information from different cultures. They are supposed to express the intentions of the communicating parties promptly and exactly. Once the interpreter fails to acquaint himself with the cultural differences in different languages, his interpreting will result in the loss of cultural connotations and cultural equivalence. The writer of the thesis thinks that the interpreter should first fully understand the source language and go through the procedure called "deverbalization" and reorganize the meaning in the target language before conveying the information. In the process of outputting the information in target language, the strategies of message integration, semantic interpretation, sentence restructure, logic processing are adopted to tackle the cultural barriers occurred in interpreting during the press conferences. By understanding the reasons of cultural barriers, the interpreters could find effective solutions to deal with the problem of cultural barriers and improve the interpreting performance.
