Measure word is a unique characteristics of the Sino-Tibetan language. Measure word becoms a very important part of Mordern Chinese because of its numbers, frequency of use. and complex of usage. Verbal quantifier, as one of the two parts of Measure word, is a kind of measure word that expresses the units of the times of action or change. Modal verbal quantifiers as personal and specific verbal quantifiers, have their own modal characteristics. The correct use and expression of modal verbal quantifiers is an important means to enchance their Chinese communicative effect in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, but it’s also one of the most difficult points for foreign students to grasp the use of modal verbal quantifiers. In order to discover the problems that foreign students appeard in the process of modal verbal quantifiers acquisition and to find out the appropriate measures betterly, this paper firstly analyzes the arrangements of modal verbal quantifiers in textbooks and syllabus, and then the intermediate and advanced students of Overseas Education College of Yangzhou University were investigated by questionnaires as the subject of investigation. By statistical analysis, we’d like to study and summarize the acquisition of modal verbal quantifiers, and to explore the types, causes of errors that happened and come up with some relative teaching strategies by contrastive analysis.The whole paper is divided into five parts:The first part is an introduction. First of all, this part introduces the origin of the heading, the sense and value of the article. And then it combs relative research results of Modal verbal quantifiers to the noumenon and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. Finally, it also introduces the scope, targets and methods of the study.The second part is the frist chapter, which intends to investigate and to analyze distribution of Modal verbal quantifiers so that we can find out disadvantages of the textbooks in overseas students’currently available textbooks named Developing Chinese and syllabus.The third part is the second chapter. By an investigation about modal verbal quantifiers acquisition situation of the intermediate and advanced students in Yangzhou University, at first, we categorize according to whether the error is contrastive or not. and then explore the bias reasons:the negative transfer of mother tongue, the influence of target language, the individual learner factors and teachingmaterial defects and so on.The fourth part is the third chapter of this article, we provide some corresponding suggestions on some inadequate in Developing Chinese and syllabus, and in order to solve the problems that foreign students appeard in the process of modal verbal quantifiers acquisition, the author makes a classroom teaching design in stages based on the theories of Krashen’s comprehensible input to teach Chinese verbal quantifiers step by step according to the students’ Chinese level.The fifth part is the conclusion of this paper, it mainly makes a overall conclusion of the article, and points out the shortcomings of the paper and the room for further improvement.
