In the Chinese textbooks of middle school, the number of the collections of modem andcontemporary literature adds up at the half of the total amount of the collections.Compared with the collections of ancient literature, the collections of modern and contemporary literature are the such literatures which are mostly closed to the students’ lives, mostly reflect the features of times and social requirements, mostly reflect the needs of curriculum reform. They are the key of the students’Chinese knowledge accumulation, language ability training, and the training of emotion, attitude, values. They are the top priority of middle school language and culture teaching. This thesis is based on the current middle school language teaching material, taking thewidely used Chinese textbooks for middle school published by PEP and the textbooks for Jiangsu as examples. To make some editorial statistic for the four sets of modern and contemporary literature teaching material, to analysis the advantages and disadvantages, in order to promote the development of the reform of teaching material. Make some statistical analysis for some modern and contemporary literature teaching, in order to put forward the teaching strategies and to promote modem and contemporary literature in the collection of teaching. There are four parts in this thesis. First of all, analysis the teaching values of modern andcontemporary literatures. The teaching values are mainly analysised from the areas,which belong to the students’ Chinese basic knowledge study and basic ability training, the teaching of the emotional attitude values, and literature aesthetic ability training. Secondly, make statistical analysis the selection of modem and contemporary literature in the middle school language teaching material, take the Chinese textbooks published by PEP and Jiangsu as examples, try to review the number of the modern and contemporary literature, editorial work quantity of the proportion of the modern and contemporary, literature style, layout design and other assignments in the current middle school Chinese language teaching material. Thirdly, by make some investigation and statistical of some schools’modern and contemporary literature teaching, analyse the status of the modern and contemporary literature teaching and review on it. In the end, according to the" investigation, to put forward the teaching improvement strategy from four aspects which are opening the door of life, stimulating students’ study interest, letting language education and literature education gone hand in hand, and improving teachers’ self-conscious of their own literary accomplishment of modern and contemporary literature, controlling the teaching focus on the modern and contemporary literature.
