This translation practice report is based on my translation task of A Master Plan for Higher Education in California, including the introduction, research and summary about procedure and completion of the task. The translator holds the principle of translation should be "meaning first with priority given to literal translation", and in translation one should employ all possible methods flexibly, including literal translation, free translation, amplification and omission so that the meaning or the message in the original text can be conveyed faithfully. When dealing with long and complexed sentences, the translator should be familiar with the differences between English and Chinese, and abide by language norms of the target language to practice an idiomatic Chinese version. Meanwhile, the translator is obliged to take account of the feature of the original, be aware of the education system the original text means, and translate the jargons of education into Chinese with as much accuracy as possible. This report consists of four major parts, the task description, the procedure description, the case analysis and the summary and conclusion. The task description and procedure description give an overall picture about the task, including the introduction of the English text and the detailed steps to fulfill the task etc. The case analysis part is the essence of this report, using the Chinese version of A Master Plan for Higher Education in California as analyzing material. First, I analyze the style characteristic, and then, I preliminarily discuss and research some skills, methods of terms translation. Finally, I make an analysis and summary according to problems and errors confronts in the process of terminology translation, and talk about some experiences through the fulfillment of the task.
