With the development of basic geographic course reform, a mastery of basic geographic knowledge and a training of geographic thinking and ability are required for students. As social economy develops rapidly, the population, resources and environmental problems have become serious issues for human’s survival and development. The content of geography teaching in middle schools keeps the main purpose of settling these problems. It teaches students the global view, resource based view, population view and zoology view based on the coherence theory of "man-land relationship". Therefore, geographic practical activities can guide students to learn geographic knowledge in the geographic environment and carry on education about environment, population and regional sustainable development. They can also lead students to apply geographical knowledge, train their creative consciousness and practical ability. In this context, this paper makes "city and environment practical activity and teaching strategic design for geography teaching material of Hunan version Ⅱ" as its selected topic.The researching methods in the paper include documentary and case study and so on. First, this paper analyses the type, content and function of the activities mentioned in chapter2city and environment in the geography textbook of Hunan compulsory version II. The teaching material involves only two of the practical activities. Therefore, according to the teaching objectives and teaching material contents of chapter2, the teaching material,the students’ cognitive level,the actual status of the school designs practical activities themed by "City traffic survey" and "City function area survey". It also proposes specific embodiment.This paper puts forward four teaching strategies in the process of on the "City and Environment" practical activities teaching by designing the four practical activities. The main strategies include:Group teaching strategy, Inquiry teaching strategy,Role play the teaching strategy, Discuss the teaching strategy.Chapter2-"City and Environment" in geography teaching material of Hunan version II focuses on humanistic geography. Therefore, the practical activities mentioned in both the teaching materials and this paper has obvious feature of humanity. The teaching strategies are also characterized by humanistic geography. These teaching strategies can help students master the knowledge of city geography and also strengthen their ability of human geography practical activities.
