Nowadays, great achievements have been made in the reform anddevelopment of Secondary Vocational Education in our country. With goodschool-running thoughts and clear reform ideas, a vocational educationalsystem with Chinese characteristics has been initially established. Based onthe basic tenet of service and the career guidance, vocational education isgradually accepted and supported by the whole society.In the National Conference for Vocational Education in2005, thetheory that the vocational education should be based on the career guidanceand the Educational Teaching “the Four Reforms”should be made is clearlypointed out. As the important course and educational teaching contents,vocational guidance in secondary vocational schools plays an active role inthe self-development of students and even in the whole society.By doing a series of work including field survey, materials checkingand interviews, the author has found that great achievements have beenmade in all secondary vocational schools. The achievements are as follows:Leading cadres at all levels have paid so much attention to the vocationalguidance; Textbooks for vocational guidance are specially designed;Full-time and part-time teachers are fully equipped; There are a variety ofteaching methods in career guidance. With all these achievements,enrolment is proved successfully.Having analyzed the current situation of career guidance byquestionnaires and interviews among the leaders, teachers, head teachers,students and parents in Baotou Electromechanical industry VocationalSchool, the author finds out many problems, such as, lack of considerationsand poor arrangements, the single guidance form, lack of pertinence and effectiveness, poor guidance by head teachers and professors, etc.According to the problems mentioned above, here are some solutions.On the one hand, all teachers concerned should give full play to theirfunctional roles in career guidance and provide more guidance throughgroup activities and social practice. On the other hand, it is the key tostrengthen the managerial competency of head teachers. Besides, providingsome more training is essential to the career guidance. And it is better tocooperate with the external profession.
