The role of science and technology is becoming more and more important with thedevelopment of society, and the popular science readings, which aim to popularize scienceand technology, have been valued in many countries around the world. Our country has alsoincreased the introduction of popular science readings in recent years. Therefore, thetranslation of popular science readings has become more important. Based on the translationof chapter6and chapter7of the popular science book The Nature of Technology: What It Isand How It Evolves, this paper analyzes the characteristics of EPS and discusses thetranslation of EPS texts according to Nida’s theory of functional equivalence.The report consists of five parts. The first part describes the source and content of thetranslation text. The second part describes the process of translation, including preparation,translation and revision. The third part introduces the features of the popular science readings,and gives a brief introduction to Nida’s theory of functional equivalence and its application.The fourth part introduces the translation methods used in the translation under the guidanceof functional equivalence, including the translation of polysemous words, passive voice,postpositive attributives, nominalization and long and complex sentences. The fifth part is thesummary of the report.
