With the rapid development of education, early education has attracted people’s attention in terms of the great need of its translation. As a special and important English style, this research report has its own characteristics in both lexical and syntactic structures, which requires translators to know the characteristics of research report, to understand the subject matter and to grasp the translation techniques and principal which should be flexibly applied to translation practice. This thesis describes the characteristics of research report, based on the analysis and summary of my translation practice with more than10thousand words from the book—Transitions to Early Care and Education: International Perspectives on Making Schools Ready for Young Children. This report mainly consists of three parts:Part one is introduction which describes the background and significance of the report of the translation, and it also introduces the study approaches and process.Part two is the main body of the report, which is divided into three chapters:Chapter One introduces the characteristics of the book in terms of content, stylistic and functional features, paving the way for further study of the translation in the following parts.Chapter Two introduces the whole process of translation, including preparation, translation process and the post translation process.Chapter Three provides some analysis on the translation cases, classify the translation cases into6types, as liner translation, turning phrases into clauses, reinventing sentence structure, semantic extension, semantic variation and reframing discourse. These cases conclude some translation techniques, and this conclusion is regarded to be a good reference for avoiding such kind of research translation mistakes in the future.Part three reaches a conclusion on the translation, giving a summary of the whole paper, hoping that there will be a brighter future for research report translation.
