With the advancement of globalization, international exchange, especially cultural exchange is playing a more and more important part in the international relations. Hence, introducing Chinese culture, especially its ancient culture and traditional culture, has become one of the missions of all the translators in China under the driving of promoting Chinese culture to the world.This thesis aims to report the Chinese to English translation of Analysis of Yude Ren’s Paper-cut Works in Yuxian County, a book focusing on analyzing and appreciating folk culture of China. The thesis begins with the description of the translation task including the analysis of language features of the source text and commonly-applied translation strategies. Then it analyzes the translation skills used in this translation projects with examples. The language used in source text is rich in both literary and academic characteristics. A large amount of parallel modifiers, extensive use of four-character structure phrases, quotations and numerous culture loaded words constitute the important and difficult parts in the translation process. The translator applies translation strategies such as domestication or foreignization to tackle each of the difficulties. At the end of the thesis, the translator reflects on the lessons and experience learned in this translation project, which will benefit the translator’s later learning and career.
