A Practice Report On The Translation Of Say Goodbye

This translation practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation of chapter twenty-seven to chapter twenty-nine of English novel Say Goodbye. This report includes the following five parts: Task Description, Process Description, Pre-translation Preparation, Case Analysis and Summary.The first part of this report, Task Description, gives a brief introduction to the task source and original writer’s writing style. The second part, Process Description, gives a brief introduction to three stages of this translation process: preparation, translation and review. In the preparation process, the third part, the author reads the original carefully, makes analysis of the original, and summaries the language features of the original. In this part, the author also summaries the specific nouns in the original and determines translation tools. The forth part, Case Analysis is the main part of this report. The author makes an analysis of four translation methods with specific cases in the translation. Used four translation methods are as follows: conversion, addition, division and shifting. This part also includes an analysis and summary of some translation mistakes and shortcomings, including textual mistakes and lack of original style. In the last part, the author gives translation experience and feelings.
