The famous educator Tao Xingzhi thinks the essence of education is to develop the life of people in life, let life guide life and life influence life. An individual person receives various forms of education, mainly school education, since he comes into the world, and his life, surrounded by education, grows and promotes. With the development of the age, frequent happenings of young students’homicide and suicide incidents have drawn people’s attention. For a long time, school education only focuses on students’ intelligence education but ignores humanistic, emotional and spiritual care for them so that students treat their own life with indifference. From1990s, Chinese scholars began to pay attention to life education, hoping that life education can help students cherish and respect both their own life and other people’s and cultivate a positive life attitude and healthy lifestyle.The development of modern education demands a return to the life world of students, namely, education should pay attention to the life world of students, teach students to cherish life, live healthily and know how to pursue their own values. The New Curriculum Reform advocates people-oriented education and stresses students’ development. This actually corresponds with the content of life education. It can be seen that life education is an important part of modern education.Biology is a discipline studying the mechanics of life and life phenomena. The teaching of life education in biology classroom instruction has an exceptional advantage. The author of this paper, basing the research on some experts’and scholars’previous study in this field and combining China’s current education situation, carries out research into life education in middle school biology teaching under the background of New Curriculum Reform. To begin with, the author consulted bibliographies to have a knowledge of the current development situation of life education at home and abroad and used questionnaires to survey the present situation of middle school students’life education and analyzed the results of the survey. Secondly, drawing on previous research experience and methods, the author explored fully the materials in middle school biology textbooks which can help with life education. Basing the study on the interpretation of the New Curriculum Standard, the author studies life education in middle school biology teaching from four aspects——teaching objectives, course content, column design in teaching and curriculum implementation. Finally, the author believes that the humanistic spirit is the subject of life education and the emotional expression of "love" is the core of life education. The key point to implement life education in middle school classroom teaching is to improve the quality of teachers in life education. Life education runs through classroom teaching imperceptibly, so the teachers should be good at exploring life education materials and make rational use of these materials to carry out life education to provide reference for middle school biology classroom teaching.
