The education of life ethics is a kind of holistic education, which cares for individual life; and, it is also a kind of spiritual education, which enhances the realm of human life. By interpreting human life, this thesis will guide university students to positive view and value on life of loving life and awing nature. In recent years, the scenes of student suicide, homicide, assault and cruelty to animals have been frequently happened and the students’ outlook on life is worrying. Although we have already some studies about theoretical systems of life ethics education, universities in China are still paying no enough attention on the subject. Therefore, it is the primary task for educators to improve the education of life ethics for contemporary university students. This thesis starts from the concept of education to describe the current situation of the lack of life ethics education and discuss the content, significance and purpose of the education of life ethics for contemporary university students and its implementing measures.This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the background, significance, purpose and methodology of the study, as well as the literature review both abroad and at home. Chapter two sets forth the purpose, content and principles of the education of life ethics in order to construct the theoretical framework of the discussion of the education of life ethics. Chapter three presents the problems in the education of life ethics and the analyze the causes. This chapter firstly describes the conduct of contemporary university students in reflecting the lack of view of life ethics, then analyze the causes of the problems in the education of life ethics from the perspectives of the students themselves, the family education, the school education and the social background. Chapter four explicitly discusses the implementing measures of carrying out the education of life ethics in colleges and educations, which are, generally speaking, to enhance the students’ understanding of the essence of life and encourage them to pursuit the value of life through the guidance from families, schools and the society.Education is not the machine manufacturing laborers. China’s education still remains in the stage of transmitting wisdom and imparting knowledge instead of enlightening spirit. For this, the education of life ethics should take the responsibility of enlightening wisdom and enriching spirit to improve the current situation. What the education of life ethics could teach us are the good life comes from the love of life. We can realize the value of life and have a better world only by constant pursuit and creation.
