Undergraduates’ Career Decision-making Difficulties And Intervention Study

The author did the research by combining the preliminary questionnaire survey and the late group psychological counseling. In order to investigate the present situation of the undergraduates’ career decision-making difficulties in Fujian province, the author selected a total of 415 students from 6 universities in Fujian province as the research object and measured all the students with CDDQ and NEO. On the basis, the author did group psychological counseling to 12 junior college students of Fuzhou University who had career decision-making difficulties for 8 weeks. After the intervention, the author explored the impacts which the group psychological guidance had on the issues of improving undergraduates’ career decision-making difficulties by collecting and analyzing the data of the intervention group and control group. Through the research the author get some conclusions as follows: Conclusions:(1) The undergraduates’ career decision-making difficulties of Fujian province is in the middle level, which is basically consistent with the level of Chinese undergraduates’ career decision-making difficulties. Some dimensions are above the average level of difficulty.(2) Different dimensions of undergraduates’ career decision-making difficulties show significant differences in demographic variables, including professional type, the school, the location of enrollment, presence of part-time experience and whether parents participate in career decision-making.(3) The big five personalities are significant correlated with every dimension of undergraduates’ career decision-making difficulties except for the openness. In particular, the agreeableness, conscientiousness and extroversion are negatively correlated with the career decision-making difficulties, while the neurotic personality is positively related with it.(4) On the whole, conscientiousness, extroversion and neuroticism can be used to predict significantly on college students’ career decision-making difficulties, which can predict the variation of 19%. Specially, conscientiousness, extraversion and neuroticism can be used to predict significantly over the lack of preparation, and the variation that can be predicted is 14%; Conscientiousness and extraversion can be used to predict significantly on information exploration difficulties, which can predict the variation of 12%; Conscientiousness and neuroticism can be used to predict very significantly to the conflict, which can predict the variation of 16%.(5) The intervention group showed significant differences in career decision-making difficulties before and after the intervention. At the same time, the intervention groups is quite different from the control groups.(6) The group psychological guidance can be effective to improve the undergraduates’career decision-making difficulties. Exceprt for the college students’ career planning curriculum, the colleges can make the group psychological guidance a effective supplementary means to promote the college students’career decision-making ability.
