National English Curriculum Standards for Nine-Year Compulsory Education comes into being with the development of education reform and the deepening acknowledgement for the law of education in China. Cooperative learning has been a significant research project in the curriculum standards which explains the significance of cooperative learning in the preface,basic concepts and implementation proposals. Textbooks are the intermediary between teaching and learning, therefore, it is integrant that the spirit of cooperative learning should be carried out in it as the curriculum standards required. With the consideration that junior middle school book published by People’s Education Publishing House is used nationwide, whether the book adopts the strategy of cooperative learning is the object of study. If not, the thesis is going to offer some effective measures for English teaching.This thesis resort to literature research method and quantitative method to analysis the research. Collect the directions in the textbooks and establish a document, then put the directions into the document. Select the directions according to the concept of cooperative learning, and retrieve the selected directions in the document. After that, calculate the ratio of the selected directions in the textbooks. Then calculate the ratio in listening, speaking, reading and writing respectively. Finally judge whether the cooperative activities are real or not based on the five basic elements of cooperative learning.The research shows that there are some cooperative learning activities in the textbooks and most of them are speaking activities. Writing activities and reading activities have a lower proportion of cooperative learning and listening activities has none of it. Meanwhile, all of the so-called cooperative activities are not real cooperative learning. In order to meet the need of New Curriculum Standards for Junior School English, the thesis provides some suggestion of how to add cooperative activities.
