The Great Loess Tableland is a documentary, describing the customs, geomorphic features and the unique dwelling environment in the east area of Gansu province. This documentary consists of eight episodes. They are Episode One:Sky, Earth, Episode Two: Emerging Civilization, Episode Three:The Holy Land of Zhaozhou, Episode Four: Northern Frontier, Episode Five:City Fortresses, Episode Six:Soul of Loess Ballads, Episode Seven:Blooming Opera and Episode Eight:Cave People. The author is responsible for the translation of the last three episodes, which become the source text of this translation report. In this report, the author will describe the translation process and conclude some translation experience.The fourth and the eighth episode mainly introduces the entire chequered history of the Qin and Han Dynasty. And it also refers to the cave, paper cut,sachets on Loess Plateau and the thoughts of investors and director. After choosing the source text, the translator made a lot of preparation for the translation, including reading the source text several times, acquiring background knowledge, and searching relative translating information. The translation of the source text was revised twice before the ultimate version was decided, under the guidance of Skopos theory, it with literal translation as main translation strategy and free translation as a supplement.There are five parts in this report. Part one is the translation project description. Part two is the introduction to the source text and preparations. Part three is the introduction to the characteristics of the subtitle translation. Part four is about the description of the translation process, including analysis made to the source text and translation methods adopted. And part five concludes the gains and experience and analyses shortage about the translation, and then provides some suggestions for future translation.
