How To Translate The Defamiliarized Parts In Literature Under The Theory Of Functional Equivalence

Russian formalism believes that in the form of embellishment like delaying,extracting or interrupting things that people are accustomed to,the time for aesthetic appreciation could be prolonged.Titled as defamiliarization,this significant process plays the role of watershed to separate literature from other forms of texts.As a result,translators should pay enough attention to defamiliarized phrases during translation practices.As literary works,text translated in this thesis should manifest defamiliarization.This thesis firstly introduces and explains three terms which are defamiliarization,functional equivalence and literature translation.By doing so,it means to unveil the fact that under the instruction of functional equivalence,translators could achieve the ultimate goal of literature translation:the equivalence of defamiliarized parts in literature.The thesis brings this notion into another level by utilizing practical examples from the text attached and thus comes up with three steps to recollect the defamiliarized contents in the source text:literal translation before functionally equivalent translation before annotation.To further polish translation,this thesis believes that when necessary,translators should have the privilege to defamiliarize some familiarized expression of the source text so as to achieve better functional equivalence between source text and target text.
