This paper is a reflective report based on the translation of the first two chapters of Guiding Young Children.Guiding Young Children is written by Eleanor Reynolds.The book offers concrete suggestions on how to guide children as they are involved in specific activities.It is a very useful book for teachers and critically acclaimed in America.In this translation report,with the function equivalence theory as the essential guidance,the author makes efforts to reproduce the original meaning and style by the flexible use of various translation strategies and methods.According to the reflection of the translation practice,the author sums up the language and features of the source text.Then,based on the concrete examples in the source text,the author analyzes the major problems meet in translation such as translation of long sentences and countermeasures takes to overcome them.Finally,the author summarizes her gains and shortcomings of the translation process as well as methods for improving her translation competence.The author hopes that this report can help her to improve translation abilities,deepen the understanding of some translation theories,and offer some beneficial help for other translators.
