Report On Translating Study Of Child Life

A growing number of parents start to learn about overseas scientific parenting ideas,resulting in a stirring of interest in overseas parenting studies.Study of Child Life,as an example,which combines with studies of well-known educators,conveying scientific parenting in a lucid and gradual way,is worthy of being recommended to Chinese parents.The material of this translation task is the first part of the book,which could be classified into the informative text type on the basis of analyzing its text function,selection of words and language style according to Reiss' s text typology theory.Considering the main function of parenting studies lies in conveying information and the translation quality may make a difference in readers' parenting behaviors,the author of this report tries to discuss the application of translation mode in accordance with sense and meaning as well as translation methods such as explanation,borrowing,and shift by taking concrete instances,with the expectation to improve the translation quality and help Chinese parents learn about overseas scientific parenting principles.In addition,ten mothers have been interviewed about the content of the translation.Even though they only represent a small part of the targeted readers,their feedbacks play a role in finding out the implicit content and selecting better words in the translation.As parenting studies are hoped to help parents improve parenting behaviors to some extent,there are some shortcomings in handling certain operative elements.Whereas,Reiss' s text typology theory,especially the mode of translating in accordance with sense and meaning for informative texts has great instructive significance in general to handle difficulties in the translating process such as selection the meaning of words as well as syntactic and cultural differences.
