This is a translation report, whose original text is Misrepresentation, the seventh chapter of English Contract Law,a legal text book co-authored by two university professors: Damian Taylor and Richard Taylor.Inheriting the law of commerce in the medieval and being influenced by judicial activism, this Contract Law shares commons with the ones in confederal countries, such as Australia,Canada,India and the United States. But the British legal system belongs to the common law system, which results in the consequence that it differs from the Chinese law in legal sources, application, compilation, procedures, structures and so on.It is well known that there are some characteristics in the legal English, one of which is that there are many long sentences difficult to be translated. The author firstly studies the background, research significance and purpose of the translation material, and then learns and analyzes the definition of the long sentence and gives a systematic analysis of the current research situation. Finally,on the basis of theoretical knowledge and the current research situation, the author discusses the translation methods or techniques for the translation of the long sentences in the legal text's seventh chapter of Contract Law.The author hopes that this report will provide some experience in the translation of long sentences for the other translators.
