A Translation Report On The E-C Translation Of The Girl In The Red Coat(chapter 19-24)

As the pace of globalization continues to accelerate,cultural exchanges among the people of all countries in the world are also intensifying.As a large number of literary works are introduced to China for readers to learn and experience,the translation of novels has certain practical and cultural significance for the exchange and dissemination of Chinese and foreign cultures.This report discusses the English-Chinese translation project of The Girl in the Red Coat(Chapter 19 to Chapter 24)by the famous British contemporary writer Kate Hamer.This novel tells a story of a divorced mother who loses her 8-year-old daughter and ends with a reunion of the two.It belongs to female literary fiction,which is told by the mother and the daughter about their experiences after separation in the first person alternately.In the process of translation,the key and difficult point is how to reveal the language features of the two main characters,so that the translation is accepted by the Chinese readers.The translator adopts the Skopos Theory as the guiding theory,attempting the applicability of the Skopos Theory to novel translation based on the source language and task features by expounding the concepts and principles of the theory.This report is divided into five parts.Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 introduce the translation project and preparation work.The third chapter focuses on the concept anddevelopment process of the Skopos Theory,and the three principles of the theory.In the fourth chapter,case analysis is conducted to explain how the translation process is guided by the Skopos Theory,so that the translation can achieve the purpose of this translation activity,which is to make the translated version accepted by ordinary Chinese readers.The last chapter summarizes the gains and limitations of this translation practice.
