Project Report For The Simulated Interpretation Of Premier Li’s Press Conference-Tactics For Culture-loaded Expression Interpretation

During the annual NPC and CPPCC sessions, the importance of interpretation has been more than ever highlighted. This project report is based on the simulated interpretation of Premier Li’s press conference during the 2015 sessions. The reporter starts with a brief introduction of the project and goes on with a detailed description of the language features of the press conference. Then the purpose of the project report is put forward and the difficulties met in the interpreting process are listed, among which the major concern is the interpretation of the culture-loaded expressions. The author categorizes the difficulties into difficulty in understanding culture, difficulty in interpreting neologism and difficulty in interpreting politics. They are always big challenges for interpreters since it is hard to find equivalent expressions in the target language easily.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, and through an in-depth analysis of the simulated interpretation transcripts, the author summarized all the coping tactics adopted during the process: rewording the cultural connotation, paraphrasing the Chinese neologism and explaining the Chinese politics. At last, the author suggests: before the interpretation, it is necessary for interpreters to probe into the target culture and familiarize themselves with the cultural connotations of the popular culture-loaded expressions, so that during the interpretation they may adopt proper coping tactics, and express the information in the target language properly.
