The material of the translation is excerpted from FANDOM AS CLASSROOM PRACTICE:A TEACHING GUIDE(Chapters 4-6),which is edited by Katherine Anderson Howell and published by University of Iowa Press in May,2018.There is no Chinese version yet. This book mainly talks about a new teaching way, which is engaging students through their popular culture interests. The practice has proved that this way can invite students to invest more of themselves into their education. The translation of this book will help readers have a better understanding of this new teaching method, and will give teachers and educators some enlightenments.Chapters 4-6 introduce using Tumblr and other fan activities(fan fiction and scanlation)as classroom tools. The original text belongs to education & teaching text featuring formal and logical language. Therefore, the translation key and difficult points lie in dealing with some words, phrases, long and complicated sentences. In order to render the ST accurately and reproduce its language style, the translator applies different methods and strategies. In lexical level, the translator uses context-oriented strategy and conversion. In syntactic level, inversion, division, repetition amplification and omission are fully applied in translation process. The translator benefits a lot from the translation and draws some conclusions as follow: firstly,a translator cannot pick up the translation material at will, the best option for the translator is to select translation material based on his/her own ability and interest.Secondly, differing from Chinese,English contains a lot of long and complicated sentences. When dealing with a long and complicated sentence, the translator should figure out its structures and features at first, and then uses appropriate translation methods to deliver a smooth translation.
