With China's construction industry gradually shifts from an extensive industry characterized by intensive labor to an intensive industry featuring the use of mechanical technologies, the industrial demand for migrant workers is trending downward in quantity, yet the requirement for their quality has risen sharply. It is,therefore,an inevitable trend for the migrant constructors to become professional. However, the professionalization process is under the influence of many factors, such as policies and institutions, social environment, and their own capabilities, which pose a direct hindrance to the modernization of China's construction industry.Since new-generation migrant workers from the construction industry have constituted the main force that is driving China's urbanization and modernization, they are investigated as the research object. This study begins by defining the connotation of this term and analyzing their current conditions.Secondly,an occupational evaluation system is established to measure their professional level by factor analysis;questionnaires have been employed to identify the factors affecting the professionalization of the migrant constructors, and key factors are pinpointed.Lastly, the Interpretive Structure Modeling is adopted to quantitatively analyze the extent of the influencing factors and propose practical measures of leveling up professionalism of the group in three aspects: providing enhanced training, building a suitable social environment, and improving related institutions. This improvement is believed to promote China's urbanization and the modernization of the construction industry. |
