During the winter vacation in 2021,the author of this report participated in a consecutive interpretation practice of a lecture named the Wisdom of Chinese Traditional Thought in the “Chinese Bridge”.Based on this Chinese-English consecutive interpretation practice, this report focuses on three aspects:pre-interpreting preparation, case studies and post-interpreting summary. The author analyzes the causes of misinterpretations of cultural terms in Confucianism and Taoism,as well as the reasons in the dis-fluency and inaccuracy of the target language caused by the redundancy of the source language and differences between Chinese and English languages. As to the problems the author encountered, several solutions are proposed:Firstly,in terms of the misinterpretation in those cultural terms, the author holds that an interpreter should be in full preparation before interpreting and have a certain knowledge of cultural background. Moreover, adopting tactics like “interpretative theory” and “explicitation” to deliver cultural connotation to the audience is needed as well.Secondly,to address the problems of dis-fluency and inaccuracy in the target language caused by the redundancy of the source language and differences between Chinese and English, the author supposes that strategies such as “information integration” and “sentence reconstruction” should be utilized to make the interpreted language concise and logical.
