At present,China is playing an increasingly significant role in the international community, and Chinese culture has received more and more attention from countries around the world.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is a treasure of Chinese traditional culture, and its overseas dissemination is highly valued by the Chinese government.Dietetic therapy is a method of health preservation that uses food to regulate body functions under the guidance of TCM theory,so as to prevent and treat diseases. The source text of this translation report is excerpted from Dietetic Therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine written by Prof.Sun Xiaosheng. This report focuses on analyzing the difficulties that occurred during the translation process and exploring the corresponding translation methods under the guidance of Skopos theory. It includes four chapters, namely task description, process description, case study, and conclusion. This report analyzes the translation of TCM efficacy, diseases, classics’ titles, classical Chinese sentences,non-subject sentences, and run-on sentences from the perspectives of Skopos rule, coherence rule, and fidelity rule.It is found that the key to translating efficacy is to figure out the logical relationship between different terms, and then literal translation or transliteration plus literal translation can be adopted.Transliteration plus annotation, free translation, and borrowing are feasible methods to translate diseases.Transliteration, addition, and borrowing are effective ways of translating classics’ titles. As for classical Chinese sentences, conversion of parts of speech, adjusting the word order, addition, and omission are proper translation techniques.Addition of a real subject or a preparatory subject is applicable to translate non-subject sentences, and they can also be translated into imperative sentences or passive sentences.Division, restructuring, linear translation, and addition of conjunctions can be used to deal with run-on sentences. This translation of Dietetic Therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is conducive to promoting the overseas dissemination of TCM,providing reference for future translation practice of TCM dietetic therapy, and advancing further development of TCM translation study.
