| In social psychology,"self-concept" is the core component of personality structure, which is of great significance to individual life adaptation and mental health.Among them,"physical self-concept" is the first component of individual self-concept,and it is also the most basic and important component of self-concept.The research on physical self-concept has been attached great importance to by experts in psychology, education and other fields, and domestic and foreign studies have proved that exercise as an intervention can effectively improve the level of physical selfconcept.Due to the late start of exercise psychology and sports psychology in China, there are few studies on the impact of sports on students’ psychology, especially on the physical self-concept of college students,so the research in this area needs to be further supplemented and improved. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between college students’ physical self-concept and exercise from the perspective of event-group theory, and try to reveal the common law of physical and mental impact of the same event-group exercise, and further confirm the psychological promotion function of sports. On the one hand,it provides theoretical basis for PE teachers, sports team coaches and psychological counseling and therapy workers. On the other hand,it has important practical significance for guiding college students to actively participate in sports and form a positive physical self-concept.This study adopted the method of literature data, bibliometric analysis, questionnaire survey and mathematical statistics.Through the combination of cluster and stratified sampling,1,408 college students were selected as research objects to study the relationship between college students’ participation in sports and the level of physical self-concept.The following results were obtained:(1)The influence of students’ participation in different sports events or different sports event-groups on their physical self-concept is consistent, which shows significant differences in the overall level of physical self-concept.There is no difference in the sub-dimension level of health, obesity, overall body and appearance. There were significant differences in the other seven dimensions(coordination, physical activity, athletic ability,strength,flexibility,endurance,self-esteem).The differences of sports categories at the sub-dimensional level of physical self-concept are as follows:(1)In terms of coordination and flexibility, the students who participate in the event-group sports of skill-dominant difficult-pretty performance, techniques and tactics dominated the same-court antagonistic, combat confrontation and rotation attack defense confrontation are at a higher level.(2)In terms of the dimensions of physical activity and athletic ability, the scores of physical self-concept of the students who participate in the techniques and tactics dominated rotation attack defense confrontation event-group sports are the highest.(3)In the dimension of strength, the results showed that the scores of physical self-concept of the students who participated in the techniques and tactics dominated the same-court antagonistic, combat confrontation and rotation attack defense confrontation event-group sports are at a higher level.(4)In the dimension of endurance, the students who participated in the two event-group sports of physical dominated endurance and techniques and tactics dominated rotation attack defense confrontation have the highest physical selfconcept level.(5)In respect of self-esteem dimension, the physical self-concept level of students participating in the physical dominated endurance event-group sports is significantly higher than that of other event-group sports.(2)The overall level of students’ physical self-concept showed significant difference under different amounts of exercise, and there was a significant positive correlation between physical self-concept and exercise amount. The higher exercise amounts students participated in daily physical activities, the higher their physical self-concept score.(3)There is a significant difference in the physical self-concept between the students who participate in athletic training and those who do not participate in athletic training. The overall level of physical self-concept of the students who participate in athletic training is significantly higher than that of the students who do not participate in athletic training. In addition, with different years of participation in athletic training, students’ physical self-concept also presents significant differences. The results show that students who insist on training for more than one year will significantly improve their physical self-concept.It can be concluded that college students’ active participation in athletic training and increasing the amount of exercise are conducive to improving the level of physical self-concept,and there are significant differences in the level of subdimension of physical self-concept among students’ participation in different sports.Whether from the perspective of event-groups or events, the influence of sports on the overall physical self-concept and the level of each dimension is consistent, which confirms the rationality of exploring the relationship between sports and physical selfconcept from the perspective of event-groups theory, and provides a new way of thinking for studying the influence of sports on physical self-concept. |
