With the ever growing Chinese national power and international status, more people from abroad expect to learn and understand Chinese principles and policies. Meanwhile, in integrating itself with the whole world, China needs to publicize itself. In this process, the press conference of NPC and CPPCC provides a fantastic platform for mutual understanding and exchanges, which allows journalists from home and abroad to communicate with Chinese premier in a direct way. The conference covers a wide range of topics, including politics, economy, and diplomatic relations, etc. Therefore, interpreters for such conference should be highly professional in dealing with all specialized terms and complex sentences, and also be qualified in interpreting difficult expressions related to Chinese culture such as Chinese idioms, proverbs, ancient poems as well as words and expressions with Chinese characteristics. In this report, the author applies Seleskovitch’s(1976) Interpretive Theory of Translation to address difficulties, especially in interpreting the culture-loaded expressions.Based on this, the strategies of adding, free translation and omitting are introduced to address all the difficulties and problems occurred in this case. It is hoped that the interpreting process with the reflections followed will be conducive to concluding strategies and methods for interpreting in such conferences as well as provide reference for translation of political texts and conference interpreting.
